Submitted ideas from Roanoke Outside have yielded two potential projects. The first of these is an interactive, trail-specific map application. The functionality would ideally include a “guide” feature that would allow users to ascertain whether they will be able to return to the trailhead before nightfall and a button to call for emergency help. This would contribute to a safer hiking experience and cut down on the need for rescue operations. The second idea is for a community event calendar. This would bring together information from the multitude of calendars that now exist. Having all of this information housed in one place would be a significant tool for area residents and would be used as an economic development resource.
